Since going cruelty free one of my top priorities was try to eliminate all products not only in my beauty arsenal but those in my medicine cabinet as well which brings me to this nice little find in hygiene care Herbal Clear Natural Deodorant Lavender Scent. Now it's no secret that there have been natural deodorants out on the market for decades including those crystal stones which I have yet to try and am not really holding my breath on those crytals working. No pun intended on holding my breath... But because no one wants to smell all carefree and hippy ( no offense to hippies having known some who have never used a deodorant it's not a cool thing!) I want to do my part in eliminating the need for animal tested products but in all honesty do not want to give up my Secret shower fresh solid. That fresh whiff you get every time you shift your armpits slightly is just heavenly. Not to mention the horrid memories of smelling like a sweaty cherry bomb went off in my pits during an episode (I'm sharing that story in the next paragraph) still haunts me and may possibly be a reason my views toward the French are somewhat suspect. ( lol! just joking! ) These reasons makes knowing the mission of looking for that perfect cruelty free deodorant is going to be a daunting task. I think this product is a decent start to making that switch.
MY FUNNY FRENCH STORY
This is a true story of a little teen incident in humility suffered upon me while traveling in Europe one summer. When my parents weren't looking I managed to sneak off in the middle of Charles De Gaulle Airport in France with some Francs ( french money not the weiner's ) in my pocket looking for some cheap tax free girly stuff to buy without having my parents in my ear telling me I shouldn't buy junk I don't need but save my money. Save my money? What the heck is a teenager going to do with some meager Francs saved? Start a fortune 500 company? Parents can be so totally lame sometimes. Anyway back to the story- I come across what looked like a chic nature boutique with all these goodies in the most adorable tins such as mint pastelles (simply candy drops) to botanical infused lipstick along with an assortment of gorgeous little knick knacks that make every little girls heart spin with glee! While I was touring the aisles of fancy french stuffery my nose caught a hint this delicious cherry scent leading me to the shelf where it was originating from and there my eyes came across a jumbo plastic spray bottle with the most prettiest cherry graphic foiled label. Picking it up I discovered it was natural cherry scented deodorant made with oils or something, details always fly over a child's head. Anyway without thinking or rather knowing the grave consequences of my ill fated purchase the last of the Francs in my pocket- 27 to be exact were sacrificed for the buy. I don't know what was the worst French buy I have ever made, this or that funky smoked salmon sandwich in the lounge earlier. 17 Francs for two slices of dry white bread and a mysterious almost invisible sliver of funky tasting salmon should not be considered edible even by airport standards, but that foul fish mishap is another story...
Back to the story... After we boarded the plane Rome bound, that night I decided to use my delicious cherry smelling deodorant in the airplane bathroom figuring I would awaken delightfully fresh upon my arrival in Italy not having to worry about being sweaty and tired from my travels with no place to shower after having left home early in the morning and traveling for over twelve hours (six straight to Europe and all the hours in between in airports/changing flights) With the confidence of a silly child, visions of greeting my cousins at the airport knowing they would smell my fabulous cherry pits made me rest easy. Now the embarrassing part...
French hippy oils, non showering for an entire day and the sweaty teen build up running around non-stop DO NOT MIX! This so called natural deodorant did not sit well with my chemistry and just covered up the sweat with this sticky sugary oily cherry stench. Sure it smells nice in the bottle but mixing it with body odor is another thing! Everyone sitting close to our aisle was complaining to the stewardess about this hideous odor that was suffocating them (that is the cherry oil-not my body) I'm surprised no one jumped from the plane. Oh well...you live and learn. When the dust settled I locked myself up in the tiny little bathroom washing my pits with that gross little airplane soap within inches of my life but nothing doing! The stench of those cherries lasted till we made our way to the house in Italy after boarding yet another flight!!! We have to take another flight from Rome to get to the city in the South of Italy where my parents come from. It seems funny to tell now but as a teenager every little thing is embarrassing and so now you know my fear of naturally based hygienic intimate products. Why did I just tell you this entire boring story? Well because I'm guessing everyone feels the same way about deodorants. You want one that works! Not just covering up your sweat but keeping you fresh & confidant. Well this Herbal Clear is almost there and a pretty good one at that. I also know some people can't use traditional deodorants because of swollen lymph nodes or other medical reasons so you might be interested in this item. Con: the lavender scent wears off rather quickly, although it protects against odor that fresh just shower scent is gone, if your going to travel can't get to a shower you need to reapply it night & day because the fresh scent doesn't last longer than a regular deodorant
My results: I tried a couple of other natural cruelty free deodorants of which I have yet to review but this was wonderful compared to those other harsh strong smelling ones. Let me start off with the formula which is a clear gel based and easily glides over your skin. The label recommends you swirl the product under your arms six or eight times. The initial burst of scent is a fresh lavender which isn't too strong but very feminine. Unfortunately that fresh scent doesn't linger with you all day even though you get odor fighting protection and anti perspiration coverage till the end of the night. This was my biggest pet peeve with this product that it didn't have that great fresh scent that makes me comfortable all day. But it does work! It's not stinky and you are covered! You get no discolorations of the skin like other nature based deo's and it's non irritating. I tested this out on the weekend not leaving the house because I really wanted to know how potent it is. It does keep your body odor free but if you do travel for long periods on an airplane or road trip you will have to reapply it because if you can't shower the night before the formula wears off and it doesn't protect into the next morning. This is an almost amazing product if it were not for the lasting fresh scent that most women look for. I might not wear this if I go out for a special occasion yet but for everyday it's okay. When you wear a dress or something you want the maximum freshness possible. Because it works I'm giving it a four starfish rating, it would get a higher rating if the scent was more powerfully fresh. But it's natural and cruelty free and hoping they improve on it in the future. I'm still going to be on the lookout for a better type but until I find one this comes highly recommended by me. This brand also makes deodorant in other scents but I find this one more feminine and fresh. Stay beautiful! XOXO
