"La la la-la la la
Sing a happy song
La la la-la la la
Smurf your whole day long"
Your singing this tune in your head right now, admit it you smurf loving children of the eighties!...
I'm back all! I want to thank everyone who left birthday wishes but the getaway was for a relatives birthday, mine is next month when I'll be away again but thank you!
Now back to blogging business. Let the Smurf-mania fever begin! As you already know by now the new Smurf movie is about the hit theaters this August 3, 2011 starring Katy Perry as Smurfette. I was such a huge fan and would rush to wake up on Saturday mornings to watch it. This stuff is classic cartoon heaven unlike those weirdo Sponge bob crap pants they allow kids to watch today. I just don't get it nor do I care to...to each generation it's own I guess.
So what does this mean for fashion and every other aspect of life that can be marketed? It's simple trend forecasting economics. Trend forecasting companies are always on the look out for what new item, person or event may generate a buzz socially/globally in the near future with inspiration coming from all and any source. In this case a movie set to come out on top at the box office which generates publicity and sets off trends that cross over the film lines into fashion, cosmetics, toys, novelty items and any other piece of merchandise it's humanly possible to generate a Smurf image on. Insider trend forecasters start working on this just as soon as the movie plans are announced with well up to one year in advance so when the movie is ready to come out retailers can pounce on you with snazzy merchandise that will make you spend spend spend! And in the case of the Smurfs there is the added fact of loyal childhood nostalgia from die hard fans (such as myself) as well as the bonus newer generation who will be introduced to the Smurfy world of the little blue mushroom village and it's evil villain Gargamel for the first time which also sparks interest.
Harper's bazaar being the fashionable institution that it is didn't waste time jumping on the Smurf Movie magic bandwagon and features a glamorous Smurfette modeling this season's must have fashion accessories. Is it wrong to be jealous of a blue animated model because she looks good and I would beat up her little blue a$$ just to steal those Lanvin shoes from her. He he he... Don't you guys love the fabulous job they did with this spread? Anyone else here a Smurf lover? Excited to see the movie? Excited to see what cosmetics are inspired by Smurfs? It's too bad Too Faced Cosmetics were a little quick on this trend with their Too Smurfy Collection from a couple of years back. I still have my Smurfette illumiate powder and come to think of it I"m sure I have Smurf toys and memorabilia packed away in a box somewhere. I wonder if MAC will do something along the lines of a collection? They need to redeem themselves from the awful job they did with Wonder Woman. On second thought, maybe they shouldn't because it seems they keep recycling the same colors and compacts with different images. Opinions? Have a great weekend. Stay beautiful! XOXO
