With what started out as a questionable move on the part of designer Narciso Rodriguez's New York show has now turned into a major spring trend alert-a dropped hemline a few inches above the ankle putting this silhouette (somewhere between mini and maxi) the midi. But before you horde a handful of pieces into your spring wardrobe you'll need to head a few warnings and tips to pull this look off correctly. A piece of advice from designer Michael Kors and I quote "This is not a good look for women with cankles" end quote. That might sound a bit harsh but to be fair since the midi hemline not totally being maxi length but rather hitting on that awkward (ankle-calf) region, logic dictates that it would spotlight rather than accentuate that not so attractive area on fuller legs. Another concern is height-unless your a leggy model, heels are a must so keep away from the flats. A few tips to wear this look without looking frumpy as detailed in Harper Bazaars March issue are as follows:
How To Wear This Look:
*Platforms & high heels work best for this silhouette and a favorite of designers for this spring is an ankle strap version. Another fave are outsize wedges with a transparent top
*Stella McCartney added double slits to her pieces for a vampy not matronly look so looking for sexy high slit details adds a fresh update to the midi.
*Avoid heavy layers on top- show some shoulder and arm, and wear heels are tips from Sarah Easley co-owner of New York shop Kirna Zabete.
Stay Beautiful! XOXO
