Cruelty Free Smile

Up for review today are two more wonderful products sent over to me from Beauty Without Cruelty to sample- Eco-Dent Toothpaste Powder & Eco-Dent Natural Mouthwash. It's not a cosmetic but because out dental hygiene is also a beautiful aspect of ourselves we shouldn't neglect it's deserves mention. It was actually very apropos that these items were sent along with the other beauty products because at that time I was wondering if there were any alternatives for things such as toothpaste, mouth rinse and what not. You know, those necessary items we consume on a daily basis but not giving a second thought to the fact that animal testing occurs in this sector as well. And it's not just a question of animal testing but also health and well being because who really knows what chemicals go into these intimate products and what long term health risks they hold for us, corporations aren't going to ever tell us what we really want to know. 

Ironically enough it got me to thinking of that funny Lilly Tomlin movie "The Incredible Shrinking Woman"-remember that?  Well, you tweens and teens probably don't but it's funny how the subject matter of that movie still holds relevance today. I mean it was ahead of it's time by posing thought provoking questions on what we ingest into our bodies,our lack of awareness and the fact that greedy corporations can lie to us and jeopardize our health. And even though the movie was completely exaggerated in what happens to poor Lily's character who shrinks down to the size of Thumbelina after coming into contact with a mixture of chemicals in household products,  the irony is that throughout all these decades consumers still let the corporate world ( along with slick advertising) dictate and or limit options available when it comes to ingredients in product we use. My Results: For the toothpaste powder, at first I thought the powder packet was weird but followed the instructions adding a little drop of product onto to my moist toothbrush and brushed away. The first thing that hit me was the taste shock factor of the product. If you guys have ever used pure baking soda to brush your teeth then you know what I mean. It was very POW strong! But the good news is that this taste dissipates after a few seconds and your mouth gets used to it. It built up a nice little foam action and left the squeakiest clean feeling on my teeth and gums which lasted well into the next morning. I'm an insomniac always waking up in the middle of the night and was surprised to still have that just brushed feeling in my mouth. As for the rinse, it was not strong tasting at all and I almost thought it wasn't working because I'm used to my strong Listerine taste. This rinse instead was light and refreshing it almost made me question if it's working. The light taste is probably due to the absence of  alcohol and it could use just a bit more flavor. Hey, if it's good enough for Oprah! right? The toothpaste powder is longer lasting than regular toothpaste making it a superb value, the price for this product is really affordable in that respect as well as the mouth rinse price point. I definitely am going to purchase these items in the future and would recommend you guys try it. These two products receive a collective five starfish rating from me. Stay beautiful!  XOXO
