Trams & trolleybuses

London’s first trams were horse-drawn. Later, electric trams covered many areas of the city. Trolleybuses were introduced in 1931 to replace trams. Like trams, they were powered by electricity from overhead wires, but they were cheaper to run as there was no track to maintain. Today trams have made a revival in Croydon.

Delightful prospects, 1908 : A year after the Hampstead Tube opened, the new suburb of Golders Green sprang up around the terminus at this previously rural crossroads. The Edwardian father has arrived home from his office in town, less than half an hour away by Underground.
