I'm finally ready to review the new Urban Decay Book of Shadows 3 New York Edition! This palette features a light up background pop up city with memorable spots and attractions of New York like the Brooklyn Bridge-Holla! Even the paper cut out New Yorkers have an attitude plastered on their faces. Especially the rude girl with her knuckle duster ring. Loves it! I needed some time to test this baby out and swatch the shades for you guys. This sold out on the Urban Decay website in twenty minutes! Girls are vultures! LOL! I think UD makes a few amount of palettes at a time to torture us and see how fast us girls can claw ourselves to the starting line just to grab one first-hehehe. This one is a teeny bit more expensive than the previous Shadow Books. Let's hope they stay waaaaay under the 100 dollar mark in the future. Would we buy $100 palette? Sure us drooling makeup fools would-isn't that such an ugly truth to post? It has the usual suspects of sixteen shades some being new exclusive colors-two 24/7 pencils which I never need to buy again in my life in the color Zero because I have so many from these palettes and a mini size primer. I am glad that there's a fabulous Ransom purple eyeliner included as well. The special quality about this palette besides being a New York tribute which is probably why everyone wanted this palette the most-would have to also be the fact it lights up with LED lights. The entire background bridge with a couple of the skyscraper towers light up when you flip open the top cover. It reminds me of my Ed Hardy Geisha Palette which also lights up. The shadow box is the same size as the others with just a little more thickness to it and also contains a mirror on the inner front cover. I have to mention the top pop up city scene doesn't stay open unless you tighten it back but I wouldn't recommend doing that as it might break so you can just prop something up to against the outer park scene allowing it to stand up. As usual the colors in this set are richly pigmented and long lasting when used with the UD primer. My favorite colors in this set are Kush and Radium which are both new and exclusive to this set. They are GORGEOUS! Perfect for this seasons fashions. I hope they make these permanent shades to purchase as singles in the future. Kush is a lovely grassy green that's subtlety rich but cool at the same time. Radium is that perfect vibrant electric blue shade with a very cool tone. I'm not a fan of peach shades but Snatch is really pretty and great as a highlighter. Money is also another of the colors that I'm loving. I don't get why they add Midnight Cowboy Rides Again in every single set! It's not ugly but too glittery plus it's in every palette. Why don't they at least use Midnight Cowboy which is less glittery? I think this set has a fabulous assortment of colors along with a good combination of textures, lots of highlighter shades with great pigment pay off. A small amount of product goes along way. They really need to start making the pans bigger because the box is sooo deep there is definitely the space to stuff more shadow pans for us loyal customers. All in all I'm satisfied with the palette and with the lovely tribute to my city! Oh I forgot to mention the lights shut off automatically after awhile I guess to save power because if you don't prop it up to stand the cover is going to fall down and shut on it's own anyway. The fact that these shadow books don't prop up on their own is a big pet peeve of mine. They should figure some way to keep these pop up covers up so you can look at the pretty cutouts while your doing your make-up. It's not too much to ask since they are pretty pricey. Am I right? I should be designing these things because I have one million and ones ways on how they could be m o o o re fabulous ;) Stay beautiful! XOXO
