Drew Brees and Saints Far apart on Extension

ESPN is reporting: Brees, who is in the final year of the six-year $60 million contract he signed with the Saints as a free agent in 2006, had said his agent Tom Condon and Saints officials have been in talks about an extension.

Brees led the Saints to the 2009 Super Bowl championship. He threw for 4,620 yards and 33 touchdowns last season as the Saints returned to the playoffs as a wild card, losing at Seattle in the first round.

NFL extends Monday Night Football Deal with ESPN

Let's just hope these three assholes aren't there the whole time.

The agreement includes 17 Monday Night Football games a season through 2021, an additional 500 hours of new NFL-branded studio programming (beginning immediately), extra highlights on all platforms, coverage of the Pro Bowl and NFL draft, the ability to show Monday Night Football and NFL studio programming on the WatchESPN app, and rights for ESPN Deportes and international networks, including regular season, playoff games and the Super Bowl in 144 countries.

Manning Out for Week 1: Kerry Collins gets Nod

Manning is upset with having to sit out.

"To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement," Manning said in a statement released by the team. "The best part about football is being out there on the field playing with my teammates. It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans. I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back. The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they miss me."

Peyton's consecutive games streak of 227 consecutive starts, including the playoffs will end on Sunday. Manning underwent neck surgery to repair a nerve on May 23rd, the recovery has taken longer than the 6-8 weeks that were initially expected.

Jaguars cut QB David Garrard

He was going to be replaced, probably before the season was over but I don't think anybody saw this coming.

Jack Del Rio had this to say:"David had a nice run here — we were joined at the hip from the time in 2007 when we made him the starter. But he wasn't able to get it going this preseason, and he even admitted that when we talked today. He for whatever reason just has not been able to find a rhythm, and be his old self. With that being the case, we just had to make a decision."

Peyton Manning Doubtful for Sunday's Opener

“During the last week, the rate of improvement in Peyton’s rehabilitation process slowed,” the Colts announced. “Over the weekend Peyton experienced soreness in his back. It was originally thought to be a normal reaction to his rehabilitation regimen. When the soreness persisted, the Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton’s case from the outset. That process continues.

“As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice. His participation therefore, in Sunday’s game versus Houston will likely be doubtful. We will update his playing status as required by NFL policy as the week goes on.”

High School Receiver Sets Receiving Record

And he's dreamy.

The numbers were beyond gaudy: a national record 447 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

He may have cost himself more if he didn't also add a 47-yard interception return for a score as part of Washington's 63-10 blowout of Elkhart Central.

"It was fun," Dieter said. "At the beginning of the game I didn't think I was going to get that many yards, but Coach Jones knows my ability to play, just threw it up a whole bunch of times. I came up with the national record.

"It feels good, but at the same time without the offensive line blocking, without the quarterback throwing, I wouldn't have the record."

For the season, Dieter has approximately 30 catches for 1,163 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Ahhh, it totally was. De La Hoya, recently sober and clean shares the truth about the pictures of him in the fishnets, panties and heels. You remember those right? Well it seems his new found sobriety has him coming clean about a lot of things including his infidelities.

In a new tell-all interview with Univision, the former boxing champion, 38, admitted that the photos, which were taken about four years ago, were authentic and that he did not want to continue lying about the matter. “Let me tell you, yes, it was me,” said De La Hoya, speaking in Spanish. “I’m tired of lying, lying to people, lying to myself.”

Reigning World Series Champs falling out of Playoff Picture- Cut Dead Weight

ESPN is reporting that the Giants who are at a season high six games out in the NL West have designated both Aaron Rowand and Miguel Tejada for assignment effectively ending their time with the Giants.

"We're at a spot in the season where we have to do some damage control with the roster. A couple things played into it. In both cases, there was diminished playing time, diminished roles," Sabean said. "If this stays ugly, we've got to turn the page, look at some other people and get ready for next year, and try to win and develop at the same time."

Sabean worked to try to move both players to other clubs within the day so they could "continue their careers." The Giants have 10 days to trade or release each player, but would have had to trade them to a contender before Thursday for them to be eligible for another team's postseason roster. Still, San Francisco is absorbing more than $15 million in the combined contracts of Rowand and Tejada.

NCAA Slaps Canes on the Wrist

The NCAA announced findings Tuesday that 12 current Miami football players accepted extra benefits from booster Nevin Shapiro and suspended eight athletes for between one and six games.

Four other players must simply repay the amount of the benefits they received and will be eligible for the Hurricanes’ season opener Monday at Maryland.

The NCAA claimed the players “received varying levels of recruiting inducements and extra benefits from Shapiro and athletics personnel” including “meals, transportation, access to Shapiro’s game suite, drinks, as well as cover charges at two different nightclubs, among others.”

The article goes on to say that the investigation into the allegations of misconduct from 2002 to 2010 is still ongoing.

This is a pretty week start and if there are 12 current players who did in fact receive "benefits" from Shapiro then it stands to reason that there are more from the years in question and the program needs the death penalty.

Vick becomes the first NFL star to sign two $100 million dollar deals. The first of course was with Atlanta and didn't have a happy ending.

Only Usain Bolt Can Beat Usain Bolt

Usain Bolt's DQ ends his three year dominance in the 100. After the disqualification which came Sunday in South Korea a visibly upset Bolt refused the medias request for comments saying, "Not going to happen."

A minor uproar ensued after Bolt's DQ on Sunday and could lead to changes in track's awful false start rule. The "one and done" rule has been on the books since 2010 and has led to a number of high-profile athletes getting kicked out of races before they begin. (Runners used to get two false starts. In 2003, the rule was changed to assign the first false start to the entire field.) The rule is made for television and fans, neither of whom, it is thought, want to see countless false starts and the delays that accompany them. That may be true. But what fans really don't want to see is a 100-meter final without Usain Bolt. Read the Full Story and See Usain Bolt's false start Here

New York Yankees Hit 3 Grand Slams- New Record

Bonx Bombers are back and fit the nickname on Thursday Night. They pounded the A's 22-9 and batted 17 times with the bases loaded. Several times the Yankees loaded the bases without a hit as the A's pitches struggled to find the strike zone.

The Yankees actually were facing a three-game sweep when they trailed by six runs in the third inning. But Cano's slam got them within a run and Martin's put them ahead. In all, the Yankees pounded 22 hits with five homers, including two by Martin — who went 5 for 5. They also drew 13 walks.
