ESPN is reporting: Brees, who is in the final year of the six-year $60 million contract he signed with the Saints as a free agent in 2006, had said his agent Tom Condon and Saints officials have been in talks about an extension.
Brees led the Saints to the 2009 Super Bowl championship. He threw for 4,620 yards and 33 touchdowns last season as the Saints returned to the playoffs as a wild card, losing at Seattle in the first round.
Let's just hope these three assholes aren't there the whole time.
The agreement includes 17 Monday Night Football games a season through 2021, an additional 500 hours of new NFL-branded studio programming (beginning immediately), extra highlights on all platforms, coverage of the Pro Bowl and NFL draft, the ability to show Monday Night Football and NFL studio programming on the WatchESPN app, and rights for ESPN Deportes and international networks, including regular season, playoff games and the Super Bowl in 144 countries.
"To say I am disappointed in not being able to play is an understatement," Manning said in a statement released by the team. "The best part about football is being out there on the field playing with my teammates. It will be tough not to be out there playing for the organization and our fans. I simply am not healthy enough to play, and I am doing everything I can to get my health back. The team will do fine without me, and I know for sure that I will miss them much more than they miss me."
Peyton's consecutive games streak of 227 consecutive starts, including the playoffs will end on Sunday. Manning underwent neck surgery to repair a nerve on May 23rd, the recovery has taken longer than the 6-8 weeks that were initially expected.
He was going to be replaced, probably before the season was over but I don't think anybody saw this coming.
Jack Del Rio had this to say:"David had a nice run here — we were joined at the hip from the time in 2007 when we made him the starter. But he wasn't able to get it going this preseason, and he even admitted that when we talked today. He for whatever reason just has not been able to find a rhythm, and be his old self. With that being the case, we just had to make a decision."
“During the last week, the rate of improvement in Peyton’s rehabilitation process slowed,” the Colts announced. “Over the weekend Peyton experienced soreness in his back. It was originally thought to be a normal reaction to his rehabilitation regimen. When the soreness persisted, the Colts medical team decided to initiate diagnostic tests and to consult with a number of specialists around the country who have been involved in Peyton’s case from the outset. That process continues. “As a result of the most recent development the doctors have decided that Peyton will not practice. His participation therefore, in Sunday’s game versus Houston will likely be doubtful. We will update his playing status as required by NFL policy as the week goes on.”
ESPN- "He'll sign tomorrow and take his physical and be ready to start practicing," Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt said Thursday night before Tennessee played New Orleans in a final preseason game. "It was a tough negotiation, but both sides gave some and we got it done." A league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the extension is worth $53 million with $30 million guaranteed. The extension will be tacked on to the two years he had remaining on his previous contract, putting him under the Titans' control through the 2016 season.
Chris Johnson bashes some of his Twitter followers by telling "fake Titan fans" to shut up.
He responded to talk of him being greedy with this comment, "I don't have a regular job so don't compare me to you and I can care less if uthink I'm greedy."
He later tried to clarify his tweet about fake fans.
"My titan fans taking it all wrong I'm talking to the ones writing me racist Comments. I'm not call the Titan fans fake at all. #LUV,"
Vick becomes the first NFL star to sign two $100 million dollar deals. The first of course was with Atlanta and didn't have a happy ending.
Multiple sources indicate that the deal is not backloaded, as many such deals are — Vick reportedly has the potential to earn as much as $16.7 million per season in each of the next three seasons. Story Here
ESPN is under fire Thursday for creating and publishing the Photoshopped image above of Michael Vick(notes) with a white face to accompany a column in ESPN The Magazine entitled "What if Michael Vick were white?"
Let me just start off by saying John Fox is an idiot. And John Elway probably took too many hits to the head to run an organization. There ahh I can breathe easier.
So in Denver now they have a bucket filled with hope and could be at the QB position and their failure to get a decent vet in the off-season will more than likely cause a crowded bucket to burst. And it looks like the Johns don't like Mr. Tebow.
As one highly knowledgeable member of the organization told me Monday: “If everything was totally equal, and this were a competition based only on performance at this camp, Tebow would probably be the fourth-string guy. Kyle [Orton] is far and away the best, and Tebow’s way behind [Brady] Quinn too. And I’m telling you, Adam Weber is flat-out better right now.”
The QB bucket has flash in the pan Kyle Orton- got news for Denver, he'll never do what he did a couple of years ago again. Next in the bucket is Brady Quinn and I've got to tell you he is one of the most overrated QB's of all time, he is nowhere near as good as people think. Now at the bottom of this bucket is Tim Tebow and Adam Weber. Just looking at this should tell you something you have a first round draft pick with a guy nobody's ever heard of.
Taking a look at the bucket you see that both Quinn and Orton have had their respective shots and both don't have what it takes to be a consistently good quarterback in the NFL, they should both be backups. Denver by not doing anything and getting a true starter and letting Tebow develop have hurt his progress and bringing in a guy like Adam Weber and singing his praises leaves Tebow the man out.
“He threw that ball before the receiver made his cut, and it came down in the dude’s hands like, ‘Merry Christmas,’ ” Pro Bowl wideout Brandon Lloyd(notes) recalled Monday. “He’s thrown four or five passes like that in camp where it’s been like … whoa. Weber’s got personality, and he’s got some swag about him, too.”
People are going to hate Tebow just because he's Tim Tebow but they haven't given him a chance in Denver and he could end up being a really good QB one day. They say he doesn't have and NFL style of play but neither did Steve Young or Mike Vick to name a couple. Granted he doesn't have the ability to throw that they do. But Steve Young didn't always throw like the Steve Young everyone knows and Vick is just now coming into his own as far as accuracy. These things develop.
And Tebow's got potential. He may ultimately be a "failure" at QB- but give him a chance.
With Peyton Manning's neck surgery taking longer than expected to recover from the possibility that the QB could miss some time in the regular season is becoming a real concern for the Colts. So much so the Colts owner jokingly tweeted that he was in Brett Favre's home town.
Terrelle Pryor has an NFL team, the Oakland Raiders.
Terrelle Pryor was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of the supplemental draft. Pryor will serve a five-game suspension handed down by the NFL as a condition of his entry into this year's draft.
Pryor is likely to receive a four-year, $2.36 million deal that includes $591,000 to sign. The suspension will cost him $100,294 of his $375,000 salary.
What do the Raider's plan to do with their new pick?
Well Pryor needs work at QB and at 6-foot-6 and 240 pounds, there's been some talk about making him into a bigger receiver or receiving tight end. Pryor has said that he'll play wherever he's needed from a positional standpoint, which may save his NFL career.
McCoy tracked down a fellow quarterback who knows a thing or two about the system. That player was Brett Favre.
Favre made it to two Super Bowls with the West Coast offense under the regime of current Browns president Mike Holmgren. This led McCoy to travel to Mississippi and workout with a retired Favre.
“Since I couldn’t get coached, it was great opportunity to pick the brain of a guy who’s played in the system 20 years,” McCoy said through a team spokesman. “It was a chance for me to get lots of questions answered. We worked on footwork, progressions, reads, things like that. It was definitely a positive trip.”
A number of star players on the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers will take the field as extras in Christopher Nolan's epic caped crusader finale, in a scene at their home stadium, Heinz Field. The film is using Pittsburgh as a stand-in for Gotham, and the a game featuring city's fictional football team plays into the storyline.
Its goodbye to the New Orleans for Reggie Bush. This is the second time the Dolphins traded with the Saints for a running back in the last decade. Do you remember how the first one went down?
Hopefully for the Dolphins this will be a little smoother and it already appears to be as Bush has reportedly signed a new contract with his new team.
The Dolphins finalized a trade for Bush on Thursday by negotiating a new two-year contract for nearly $10 million with him, a person familiar with the talks said. The person confirmed the agreement to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the teams had yet to announce the deal. Story Here
"A special thanks to Myra Kraft, who even in her weakest moment, allowed Mr. Kraft to come and fight this out," Saturday said. "Without him, this deal does not get done. .... [He] helped us save football."
WASHINGTON (AP)—NFL owners and players agreed early Monday to the terms of a deal to end the lockout, and players were expected to begin their voting process later in the day, two people familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because the process was supposed to remain secret and no formal announcement had been made.
The NFL Players Association’s executive committee was to meet at its headquarters in Washington on Monday so it could be presented with the finalized agreement. NFLPA president Kevin Mawae(notes) arrived shortly after 9:30 a.m.
Favre knows Eagles head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg from his days in Green Bay, and you've got a good scheme fit for Favre's talents. And when the Eagles trade Kevin Kolb(notes) (as they undeniably will), that will put Michael Vick(notes) out there as the absolute starter. Factor in Vick's breakneck style, the injuries it led to in 2010, and the four games he missed, and it's clear the Eagles need a veteran backup familiar with a West Coast Offense that has aerial passing components.
